I am new to the cattle business. What do the following terms mean: Solid mouth, broken mouth, long mouth? Is there a good reference for how the teeth of cattle look as they age? Thanks in advance for your help.

We buy bottle calves from local dairies and auctions. Most do fine; however, in many we seem to keep getting the same symptoms about 4 to 7 days after we get the calves. It starts with backing off the bottle, then they get down and refuse the bottle. Within a day or two their nose and mouths are ice cold and they die soon after. We have treated with everything the vet has suggested (antibiotics, medicated milk, stomach meds)and never been able to save one with these symptoms. The most common symptom of this, that seems to separate this illness from any other, is the ice cold nose and mouth. We have asked everyone and our trusted vet and can't seem to get a diagnosis, or plan of treatment that helps.

I am writing a college paper about the benefits of obtaining a degree in biomedicine in order to become a vet. I was wondering what your opinion is on biomedicine in the veterinary career.

My wife and I had multiple chigger bites after walking in tall grass. Our French Bulldogs also had multiple red papules about 3-4 mm in size, but they didn't seem to itch. Do dogs get chiggers?

I am about to turn my cows and calves into a pasture that has several large patches of poison ivy. Anything to worry about?
