Tuberculosis in Cattle
Tuberculosis of cattle (bovine TB) was once common in US cattle herds; damaging the health of cattle and, serving as an important source of human disease in the US. That was long ago. In 1917 the US began a program to protect public health by eliminating bovine TB from cattle and pasteurizing milk. This program has made bovine TB an extremely rare infection of cattle, and humans in the US today. Recently, bovine TB was diagnosed in cattle from a Nebraska ranch.

The Third Governor's Conference on Ensuring Food Safety was held on May 5-7th, 2009 at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Lincoln, Nebraska. The conference focused mainly on the emerging issues and processing strategies for controlling E. coli O157:H7.

Cattle Tuberculosis in Nebraska
According to Nebraska Department of Agriculture (NDA) State Veterinarian Dr. Dennis Hughes, NDA and the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) veterinarians have discovered a herd of beef cattle in the Rock County area that have tested positive for Tuberculosis (TB).
